Portugal will face Poland in the Euro 2016 quarter final match later today. Who do you think will win? Basically, this is one of those matches in which there are no favorites. Both teams have had mixed campaigns, with Portugal failing to win a single game in the group stages, and Poland experiencing similar struggles with Austria and Northern Ireland. Portugal have scored more than one goal in a match only once so far, and that was against Hungary(3-3).
The thing to look out for in today’s match is the battle between Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski. These two bros have had less than awesome performances in the competition, with Ronaldo scoring just twice, and Lewy scoring no goals yet. But these bad guys are the major threats in their teams (when I say major, I mean they are the biggest guns in the world), and they have everything to play for, seeing as Poland last got to the semi finals of a major competition in 1982, and Portugal have never won the Euros, despite playing 32 games.
Both teams have some other talent besides Cristiano Ronaldo. There’s this young john named Renato Sanches, who had a brilliant season with Benefica, and has joined Bayern Munich ahead of the 2016-17 season. There is also this dude called Jakub Blaszczcykowski (please how the heck do they pronounce THAT?), who has had a hand in all five of Poland’s goals in the last two Euro competitions. That’s the same guy that has been producing some awesome displays for Borussia Dortmund. I assume they say his name correctly in Germany.
My prediction for the match is that Portugal will struggle to break down the Polish defense, but some individual talent will tip the scales in favor of Portugal. Ronaldo will score (obviously. He has found his scoring shorts). Lewandowski will hit the crossbar. That’s all.
Or maybe not. Let’s watch and see.
