Yesterday, the last of the Boxing Day Premier League fixtures took place. Well, it was jut one match; Liverpool hosted Stoke City at Anfield. Liverpool won the match, of course; though the first half wasn’t the best of Liverpool displays. They actually conceded first. However, Liverpool hasn’t been one of the best performers of 2016 for nothing; they equalized shortly, and in the second half they opened the floodgates. The match ended 4-1, in case you didn’t hear about it before.
What does this mean fo Liverpool now? It means that they are second on the league table right now, six points away from the top spot. Based on performances since January, I could say that they are the best team in the Premier League right now. However, there is no need to argue; they are the best team in the league right now Liverpool have amassed the highest number of goals in the Premier League in 2016, stretching from last season. How many finals did they reach? They played in the League Cup final, but unfortunately, they lost. They also played in the Europa League final. However, they lost that one too. That, however, did not stop them from laying siege to the Premier League this season; if not for Chelsea and their unbelievable 12 straight wins, the Reds would probably be on top with a similar gap.
It does not bode well for the other title contenders, too. Manchester City won their last game against a floundering Hull City. They managed to do this without the ever-influential Sergio Aguero; however, they will face Liverpool next. I sense a problem there. Also, the City defence is not exactly waterproof; as I have mentioned before, Liverpool scored the most goals of any club this year. I don’t see how the City defence will cope. Well, there’s only one way to find out; the match will be played on Saturday, December 31st.
