What a wild night it was last night. Yesterday’s Champions League games were total chaos. Manchester City stole the night, of course, with a sensational 5-3 victory over Monaco, and that game will live long in memory. Atletico Madrid did what Atletico Madrid does, as Antoine Griezmann made history as Atletico’s highest scorer in the Champions League. Well, when you rub shoulders with legends, greatness rubs off on you. You see why Griezmann was the third-best footballer of 2016 now, don’t you?
However, Griezmann’s goal-scoring achievement was not the main attraction last night. Atletico Madrid went into this game as massive favorites; you wouldn’t bet against the team that played in two finals since 2014, would you? Well, Bayer Leverkusen tried as best as they could. However, the Rojiblancos were simply too much. Kevin Gameiro once again proved why Atletico don’t need to rely too much on Griezmann. Fernando Torres scored a goal too, proving that he still got it. Griezmann became the club’s top Champions League scorer. What a night. This was total chaos.
But then, that was expected. However, nobody expected the mad frenzy at Manchester. Monaco came into this game as slight favorites, based on their position in the French Ligue 1 table and their current form. Note that Manchester City were not doing too badly; however, they had a few problems. Well, Monaco breezed into town and scored two beautiful goals. Falcao scored the first, a goal that few in either part of Manchester will forget in a hurry. Kylian Mbappe added another; seriously, this young dude is making Thierry Henry a mere mortal now.
Well, if Manchester City were going to let this match just end like that, they showed no sign of it. Raheem Sterling scored one for the Citizens, then Sergio Aguero equalized. Also, Falcao missed a penalty, and Aguero got booked for diving. That was unfair, as the dude had actually been fouled in the penalty area. Anyway, Falcao scored another beautiful goal; then Manchester City really came at them. Aguero scored again, John Stones added another, and Leroy Sane topped off an insane display with a very cool goal. Like I said, total chaos.
