Glo 4G now available in 6 Nigerian cities

Today, Nigeria officially launched its 4G LTE service. While Glo’s official Twitter handle initially claimed that the service is available nationwide, insider info is that the Glo 4G LTE service is officially available right away only in the following cities: Benin, Jos, Warri, Eket, Yola and Zaria.

There have been reports of random sightings of Glo’s 4G in a few locations in Lagos too, but most areas in Lagos do not have Glo 4G coverage yet.

If you are located in any of these cities, you can go swap your old Glo SIM for a 4G SIM card. You will also need a compatible 4G LTE smartphone, tablet or mifi/modem. Subscribe to a Glo 4G data plan and you’re good to go.

  1. After hearing about the launch of Globacom’s 4g service in Benin, I excitedly went to the Gloworld shop on Mission Road to get a 4g sim for my Samsung Galaxy note 5 and was informed that only the Samsung Galaxy S7 works for now. So guys, don’t get too excited.

  2. I have been sifting through the LTE bands of the smartphones that Glo listed as compatible in order to narrow down what Glo 4G LTE band could be. All my web searches for same have yielded no fruit yet either. Tough going.

However, comparing the LTE bands of the Note 5 with the S7, the only LTE band that seems to be on the S7 but not on the Note 5 is 13(700).
